A view of the posterior abdominal wall

This is a complex layered sketch that presents the intricate anatomy of the posterior abdominal wall in layers.  The different layers are presented one by one and added to the sketch, structure by structure.

In this view, the skeletal background is represented by the pelvis, the lumbar vertebrae and the most inferior pair of ribs. The ligamentous and joints background is represented by the anterior longitudinal ligament, the iliolumbar and iliosacral ligaments, and the ligaments related to the inguinofemoral region: pectineal (Cooper's), lacunar (Gimbernat's), and the inguinal (Poupart's) ligament.

The muscular background is represented by the following muscles: Transverse abdominis, Quadratus lumborum, Psoas major and Iliacus.  This layer is complemented by the nerves that arise from the lumbar plexus of nerves. All of these named nerves are shown in the drawing:

Iliohypogastric
Ilioinguinal
Lateral femoral cutaneous
Femoral
Genitofemoral
Obturator

All other layers including the endoabdominopelvic fascia, vascular background and retroperitoneal organs are presented in detail.
